HE Reem Al Hashimy was sworn in as Minister of State in the Cabinet of the United Arab Emirates in February 2008.
Ms. Al Hashimy is Chairperson of Dubai Cares, a UAE-based charitable establishment launched in September 2007 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with the aim of improving children’s access to primary education in developing nations.
In addition, Ms. Al Hashimy is the Chairperson of Emirates Competitiveness Council. The Council is working together in partnership with public and private entities to endorse policies and undertakes actions which will drive the UAE’s competitiveness agenda to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity.
Ms. Al Hashimy has experience in international affairs, beginning her career as Commercial Attaché and, subsequently, as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington, D.C. In this capacity, she was closely involved in a broad spectrum of issues related to the UAE-US bilateral relationship, including security, trade as well as economic and social issues. Ms. Al Hashimy completed her undergraduate studies at Tufts University, where she earned B.A. degrees in International Relations and French. She also holds a Masters Degree from Harvard University.
